RCCC nursing students pass national licensure exam
KANNAPOLIS — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College proudly recognizes its associate nursing program whose entire class of students passed their National Council Licensure Exam.
“The college is extremely proud of the nursing program’s excellence and the service our nurses provide to our community,” said Carl M. Short, chair of the Rowan-Cabarrus Board of Trustees. “We are also thrilled that they now have state-of-the-art facilities in their new space at NCRC.”
“Our 2011 graduates scored 100 percent on the national council licensure exam for registered nurses,” said Cathy Norris, RN, MSN, director of nursing education for the college. “It is an honor to be only one of four community colleges in the state of North Carolina to have this distinction.”
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is also one of only eight programs in the state – among private colleges, universities, and other community colleges alike – to receive this distinction.
“Rowan-Cabarrus Community College students pass the state and national board exams well above state and national averages,” said Dr. Carol S. Spalding, president of Rowan-Cabarrus. “Our graduates serve as nurses at Rowan Regional Medical Center, the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Charlotte Medical Center-Northeast, home health, long-term care facilities, hospice and other organizations in North Carolina. We are very proud.”
“We work extremely hard with our students to ensure that they are able to pass this exam, but it is remarkable to have all of them pass and become registered nurses!” said Norris.
The RCCC Board of Trustees tour the new nursing facilities at the college’s North Carolina Research Campus building at their January board meeting.
The licensed practical nursing and the registered nursing programs are now under the same roof. The nursing programs occupy half a floor in the building, including a simulation lab where students work with lifelike mannequins. This transition frees up space at the North and South campuses, where the programs had previously existed.
