Woman's death raises questions about nursing home medical records

Today: Don Esco asked for a skilled nursing facility in Placerville for Johnnie, his wife of nearly 61 years, while she was recovering from a bout with pneumonia. She died 13 days later. Esco sued, alleging that the medical records have lied about the treatment of Johnnie.
Don Esco first sight of his future wife, Johnnie, when they were both 14, a chance meeting aboard a tram bound for Santa Monica beach.
It was summer 1944, Esco was going to fall hard for the mind, 5 feet 4 inches girl with blond hair and blue eyes, the youngest of 15 children.
"The minute I saw her, I said," This is the girl for me, "said Esco, now 81.
"I never looked at another woman."
After nearly 61 years of marriage, born in Texas Esco dream girl - nicknamed "Sunshine" - died after spending 13 days at El Dorado Care Center in Placerville.Recovering from a bout with pneumonia, Johnnie Esco, 77, was expected to return home with her husband after a little rest and skilled-nursing.
Don Esco buried his wife instead.
The nursing home and its previous owner, Horizon West Healthcare Inc. - a company based in Rocklin with a history of license violations and conflict with the rules - will soon be the center of another legal storm.
Death Johnnie Esco on March 7, 2008, led to a trial civil litigation, investigations by the California Department of Justice and the Department of Public Health - and the exhumation of his body to Arlington National Cemetery.
Last week, amid the inquiries of the bee, the State Department of Justice reopened the criminal investigation into the treatment Johnnie Esco installation.
