School Days thanks

School Days project has finished its main work of providing school supplies to teachers in Douglas County, seven elementary, two middle schools and Whittell High School for students who need materials to supplement their school work. School Days Project, now in its 14th year, has helped about 99 teachers provide materials to about 590 children. Teachers can also request supplies at any time during the school year. Supplies ranging from pencils, pens and pencils to notebooks, dictionaries, backpacks and calculators. This program was approved by Lisa Noonan, Superintendent of Schools.A generous community makes this project possible by donating money that is used to purchase supplies or by collecting and donating school supplies. Douglas Disposal made sure all 9,260 pounds of donated food were delivered promptly to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. The successful holiday food drive was the result of Douglas Disposal customers who contributed bags of groceries during last week's pick-up. All over the county, drivers retrieved the food goods along with the weekly trash pick-up. The trucks served dual purposes that week with double duty for the employees. Boomer Schultz coordinated the team effort with route drivers and employees. A big thanks goes out to all DDI employees and customers for their generous response. Groceries were sorted at the food closet and ready for distribution the week before Christmas. Many appreciative families will be adding this food to their own tables to serve over the holidays. The food closet also wishes to thank everyone at Douglas Disposal for the success of the drive. This demonstrates what a community working together can do to help families and individuals in need. If you missed out on contributing, your food donations can be accepted directly at the food closet at 1255 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville on Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 1-4 p.m. The food closet welcomes your donations throughout the year.
