FLINT, Michigan — Flint Mayor Dayne Walling says he's glad the city's emergency manager is involving elected leadership while Flint is under a state takeover.Brown on Tuesday partially restored the salaries of the mayor and Flint City Council and established their responsibilities, including public engagement and one council meeting a month.

“I will continue to dedicate 100 percent of my time to serving the community as mayor and my door remains open to citizens at City Hall,” Walling said in a statement. “I will focus on jobs and economic development and planning so Flint offers opportunities for a brighter future.”
Brown ordered that Walling will receive 60 percent of his base salary, reducing his pay from $91,801 to $55,080 a year.
Brown also announced that each member of the Flint City Council will receive $7,000 a year with no benefits and will hold one council meeting a month .
Previously, council pay ranged from $19,907 for general members to $20,856 for the president.
The mayor and council members' salaries had been terminated after Brown took office as Flint's state-appointed emergency manager on Dec. 1.
Under the law, Brown has the authority to fully or partially restore their pay.

Well that's an utterly horrifying statement to read this morning... Pardon the cynicism, but given the track record of his appointed 'experts' in these fields, you'll have to forgive how this statement is a positive or hopeful thing in any way, shape, or form. If the city needs someone in this position (and it most certainly does in my opinion), then a professional with an actual resume showing, I don't know, a couple decades of positive, real-world, examples of economic/physical/development planning experience would be great. This shouldn't be a job given out to some politician just because we all feel bad he's got nothing else to do... Right?
