Experts assess damage after fuel spills in creek
DENVER (AP) - Authorities are assessing the damage after a tanker truck crashed and spilled 4,000 gallons of fuel into Clear Creek.
State police say the crash occurred about 9 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 6 near the Loveland Basin ski area, leaving the driver with minor injuries.
Federal pollution officials were called to check the damage to the creek, which was tinted red because the diesel fuel for farm machinery had been dyed.
State Trooper Greg Manning tells the Denver Post http://bitly.com/pSYhMO that there have been reports that some fish were killed and wildlife officials have been contacted.
He says that when the truck rolled, about 4,000 gallons of fuel into the creek.
The roadway was closed in both directions by 5 p.m.
LINGERING MURDER CASE
AG seeks author's notes in old Neb. murder case
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska attorney general has subpoenaed the notes and other materials gathered by a Colorado man who penned a book about a 1955 killing.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports ( http://bit.ly/nDM2En ) the request was sent last week to David Strauss, of Arvada, Co. His 2010 book, "Barbarous Souls," details the rape and murder of 21-year-old Nancy Parker in her Lincoln home.
Parker's husband, Darrel, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. He was pardoned in 1991.
Parker, now of Moline, Ill., has sued the state for wrongful conviction.
Much of the evidence supposed to be on file from the murder investigation has gone missing. So, the attorney general's office is seeking Strauss' notes.
Strauss says his book suggests Parker is innocent and he'll comply with the request.
