Police: Roommates argued over iPod before stabbing

BOWIE, Md. (AP) - At 19, the Maryland College Student was charged Friday with fatally stabbing her roommate inside their dormitory-style apartment after the two women argued about the music plays from a iPod, police said.

The death of Dominique Frazier, 18, rocked the campus of Bowie State University, a historically black small school in a suburb of Washington. Classes were canceled as students who were in the middle of a week of festivities back, gathered somberly inside a gym. Grief counselors were on hand and some students crowded outside an impromptu prayer service.

Fellow students described growing friction and fights between Frazier and her roommate, Alexis Simpson, who was charged with murder and assault on Friday and was held without bond pending a court hearing Monday.

The final confrontation occurred Thursday evening, after Simpson, cut an iPod belonging to Frazier that women and other students were preparing for a school-sponsored comedy, according to police charging documents. The iPod was the music from within the women's washroom shared.

The police said Mr. Frazier has emerged from his room, and the two began to argue in the hallway.Simpson produced from his room that students others said appeared to be a knife and began swinging motions to Frazier, who clung to his throat bleeding, staggered into the hallway and collapsed , police said. She was pronounced dead in hospital.

"I did not do it, you do not know what I went through (sic) you all jumped me," said Simpson, according to a Maryland State Police.

Simpson, District Heights, Maryland, fled the campus after the stabbing, which was reported shortly after 20 hours, then turned to the police around midnight.His lawyer did not return calls seeking comment, and no one answered a telephone at home on the documents load. A review hearing bail was set for Monday.
