Ron Daum will direct the cabaret-style show at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday on the Side Door Stage at the Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State St.

The madcap musical is described as a "touching, song-filled celebration of the origins of the show-business legends and the family's gutsy, tender, matriarch Minnie Marx."

The Marx Brothers, originally from New York City, were a family comedy act who enjoyed success in vaudeville, Broadway and motion pictures from the early 1900s to around 1950.

Five of their feature films were selected by the American Film Institute as among the top 100 comedy films, with "Duck Soup" and "A Night at the Opera" in the top 12.

The core of the act was the three elder brothers, Chico, Harpo and Groucho; each developed a highly distinctive stage persona. The two younger brothers, Gummo and Zeppo, did not develop their stage characters to the same extent, and eventually left the act to pursue other careers.

Annie Kaiser plays the role of Minnie -- who is renowned as the driving force behind her sons' success.
Eric Little is musical director, Alex Diaz is the production's lighting designer and Kay Vega is the producer.

Tickets are $18. Food, wine and other beverages will be available for purchase before and during the show.

Space is limited. For reservations, visit www.lakewood-center.org or call 503-635-3901.
