COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- A woman charged in a fiery, fatal crash at a gas station has been sentenced to five years of probation.
Kelli Renae McKay pleaded guilty Wednesday to careless driving in a freak accident at a Colorado Springs gas station in which 18-year-old Whitney Hendrickson died in March.
McKay crashed her pickup into another vehicle at the gas pumps.
Hendrickson was filling up her minivan and was trapped between a toppled gas pump and her vehicle, which was engulfed in flames seconds after the impact.
El Paso County Judge Larry Martin said he was respecting the wishes of Hendrickson's family by not sending McKay to jail. Her sentence includes 200 hours of community service and she can't drive or have a driver's license for four years.
