All about the science of construction
The end of Ganapati Sthapati had a beautiful statue of Sri Ranganatha at the request of the Sri Lankan government. "He was amply rewarded, but money was always secondary to him. He was the joy of creation that mattered," says Sthapati Selvanathan, nephew and adopted son of Ganapati Sthapati.
A chat with Selvanathan, just one week after the disappearance of the great sculptor, has thrown light on the multifaceted genius of Ganapati Sthapati. The mantle fell on the Shanmugavelan Selvanathan and brother, nephews of the deceased Shilpguru, who had no progeny. He took the siblings under his wing and trained in the art he loved. Both are set sthapatis with several projects on his own.
Helping them in their efforts are wives and Ponni Gayathri. With the two men engaged in projects, it was left to women to assist the Sthapati top in his research. "We were constantly taking notes, typing courses and find the documents he wanted," they say. They also shared the responsibility to obtain the books and documents written by the sthapati published by his house editing Dakshinaa.
"He was so liberal in outlook that ensured that we were not burdened with household chores. "Education should be exploited," he said. "And the girls he had handpicked as the spouses of his son has not dropped. They made their fingertips and show a thorough understanding of the work of the veteran that lasted many areas - architecture, vaastu, sculpture, etc..
For Sthapati Ganapati, Sthapatyam was the fifth Veda. "He made us recognize as sthapatis. We have been called Shilpi far, "said Selvanathan."Vaastu Shastras define sthapati and truly put the highest pedestal of general manager of the Architectural Design," the Sthapati said in his book. " Sthapatya Veda "He speaks of two OM - OM OM sound and light.
Inflight Engine Failure
Another great video. I like how you focus on the stuff that matters as opposed to getting hung up on some complicated procedure. That’s definitely a great one to practice all the time…just had a pro pilot at my home airport drop a few skydivers before losing his engine a few miles out of from the strip. He did a couple things wrong and made things a little harder on himself but luckily no one was seriously hurt.
Suggestion for future video: Flying VFR in B and C airspace. This is one of those super practical things that seems to be avoided on the checkride. I think most young VFR pilots (myself included) aren’t really sure how to transition through B airspace and end up going way out of their way to avoid it.
Thanks for a good video, Jason. The thought of an engine failure is one of the things that makes me most nervous as a student. What about a forced-landing checklist? What things should be on your list of to-dos if you see that you are really going to have to put it down in the dirt. I’d like to know what you think would be important. One thing my instructor came up with is reducing the prop (constant speed) to minimum, in order to eliminate as much parasitic drag as possible and extend the glide.
I live in NYC and fly out on Long Island, which means that pretty much everywhere in the local flight area is within range of a beach, making emergencies a virtual no-brainer. This is of course good from a practical sense, but not so good for training as you want to be prepared for when a nice long beach isn’t guaranteed to be within glide distance. So during emergency practice my instructor would often tell me that the beach was ‘on fire’ and not an option for landing, forcing me to look for other suitable landing fields.
Wouldn’t you know it, on my checkride the examiner did the exact same thing; during the emergency test, he told me the beach wasn’t an option for landing, and made me find a less obvious place to set down.
