Nissan recently unveiled its new Infiniti JX crossover utility vehicle, which will be assembled at the company's plant in Tennessee.

The seven-seat luxury crossover goes on sale next spring. It will be the first Infiniti to be assembled in the United States since production of the QX56 sport utility vehicle was moved to Japan two years ago.

Infiniti, Nissan's premium brand, currently builds all of its vehicles in Japan.

With three rows of seats and a large cargo area, the JX will be the roomiest luxury crossover on the market, Nissan said.

The JX model shown at the recent Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance luxury car show in California was a concept version; Nissan officials said the production model will be introduced at the Los Angeles auto show in late November.

“The three-row luxury crossover segment is one of the fastest-growing among all luxury vehicle segments, providing a huge opportunity for Infiniti,” said Ben Poore , vice president of Infiniti Americas.

“And like every segment Infiniti enters, we plan to shake up the status quo — with a vehicle that is guaranteed to become the new benchmark for style, hospitality, roominess, advanced telematics and safety technologies,” he said.

No prices or fuel-economy estimates have been released yet, but the JX will fit in the current Infiniti lineup between the midsized, five-passenger FX crossover and the full-size, eight-passenger QX56 sport utility vehicle. FX prices for 2011 range from $42,600 to $57,600, while the QX56 begins at $58,700.

Under the hood of the JX will be a fuel-efficient V-6 engine, Nissan says. It will be connected to a new continuously variable automatic transmission with manual sport shifter, and either rear- or all-wheel-drive will be available.

While no other details were released about the JX engine, it's expected to be a version of Nissan's VQ series six-cylinder. In the flagship Infiniti M37 sedan, this engine has 330 horsepower, along with fuel-economy estimates of 18 mpg city/26 highway with two-wheel drive and 17/24 with all-wheel drive.
