Sunlight Foundation unveils mobile app for healthcare 'shoppers'

The explosion app has given consumers of health care a new way to search for a second opinion.

The Sunlight Foundation in Washington, DC, nonprofit focused on transparency in government, announced a mobile application for consumers that allows them to search for information on providers of health care services and medication options prescription.

"Health Sunlight" soft take information from government institutions and non-profit and is divided into three categories: Health facilities, medical providers and prescription drugs.Available on the iPhone or Android, the application allows consumers to search for scores of government hospitals and nursing homes, to find rates and surrounding communities with medical supplies and compare prescription drug options.

This is the first in a series of so-called Apps national data developed by the sun, which is supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and following the Congress for Android phones and Windows and Real Time Congress for the iPhone, two mobile applications focused on legislative oversight. Future applications are expected to deal with finance, education and the environment.

"Every day, data is collected, analyzed and distributed on how hospitals are treating patients, what drugs are being prescribed and how our elderly are being cared for, but it's often cumbersome to find," said Ellen Miller, co-founder and executive director of the Sunlight Foundation, in a press release. "And beware – the data is not perfect nor comprehensive. However, Sunlight is experimenting in developing apps based on government data to explore the importance of it for consumers. Sunlight Health makes is easier to sort through the latest data from the government and private sector, so people can be more savvy healthcare consumers."

Robin Williams

Early life

Williams was born in Chicago, Illinois. His mother, Laura (ne Smith, 19222001), was a former model from New Orleans, Louisiana. His father, Robert Fitzgerald Williams (September 10, 1906  October 18, 1987) was a senior executive at Lincoln-Mercury Motorship in charge of the Midwest area. Williams was raised in the Episcopal Church, though his mother practiced Christian Science. He grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he was a student at the Detroit Country Day School, and Marin County, California, where he attended the public Redwood High School.Williams also attended Claremont McKenna College (Claremont Men's College then known) for four years.

He has two half-brothers, Todd (who died August 14, 2007) and McLaurin.

Williams described himself as a quiet child whose first imitation was of his grandmother to his mother. He did not overcome his shyness until he became involved with her drama department in high school.

In 1973, Williams was one of only 20 students accepted into the freshman class at the Juilliard School, and one of only two students to be accepted by John Houseman in the advanced program at school this year there, the other being Christopher Reeve. Dialects in the classroom, Williams had no trouble mastering all dialects quickly. Williams left Juilliard in 1976.

Career in television

After appearing in the cast of the short-lived The Richard Pryor show on NBC, Williams was cast by Garry Marshall as the alien Mork in the hit TV show "Happy Days".As Mork, Williams improvised much of his dialogue and designed many rapid-fire verbal and physical comedy, speaking in a voice high and nasal. Mork's appearance was so popular with viewers that it led to a spin-off from hit TV sitcom, Mork and Mindy, which ran from 1978 to 1982. While playing the same character as in his appearance in Happy Days, the show was set in modern times, in Boulder, Colorado, instead of late 50s in Milwaukee. Mork is an extremely popular character, featured on posters, coloring books, lunch boxes, and other goods.
