It is nonetheless unfortunate that his success in Holland was somewhat overshadowed by an interview he gave to a local TV channel in which, inexplicably (given that his interviewer spoke perfect English), he adopted an accent that made him sound like a Dutch version of Inspector Clouseau.

After a disappointing spell with German side Wolfsburg, McClaren took the reins at the City Ground with his sights set on promotion, and has brought with him his first-hand knowledge of Dutch football.
