New clothing store moves into Campus Corner
NORMAN — A Texas-based clothing store will replace longtime Campus Corner landmark Cookies ‘n’ Cards, which shuttered July 31 after nearly a quarter century in business.
Rockin Bohemian, a women’s clothing store with one location in Plano, Texas, is scheduled to open in Norman by Friday, owner Steven Horn said.
“We hired a bunch of girls and we’ll be working on it until we get it open, hopefully on Friday,” Horn said.
A 1982 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Horn said he believes Campus Corner is the right fit for Rockin Bohemian.
“I think it’s going to be great for us here,” he said. “There’s a lot of traffic going up and down (Asp Avenue) ... and not only (college) kids shop here, but a lot of young families and other people, too.”
Rockin Bohemian sells mainly women’s tops, dresses and flip-flops and that “about 90 percent” of the items for sale in the store “are our label,” Horn said.
The targeted customer of the store is hard to pin down, although college students and young women are likely to be a key demographic for Rockin Bohemian.
“I would say we appeal to the teenage age group up to 50-year-olds, depending on their tastes,” Horn said. “They have to love that BoHo look, though.”
Horn, who owns the company along with his wife, Meredith St. John-Horn, said he started out selling the Rockin Bohemian label to other retail shops and only recently opened a brick-and-mortar location in the Shops at Willowbend in Plano, an affluent suburb of Dallas.
But this is just another step for the clothing company.
“This is just the next step,” Horn said. “We’d like to have several stores and eventually have franchises.”
Prior tenant evicted
The owners of Cookies ‘n’ Cards, the prior tenant of Rockin Bohemian’s building, couldn’t keep up with the growing cost of leasing retail space in Campus Corner.

I have this style of sandal in a few different colors, and I really like them. They fit nice and they don’t give me blisters, as most flip flops do. They’re very stretchy and flexible around my foot. I like that they look different from other flip flops too. The only thing I’m not crazy about is that if I’m not vigilant about keeping my toes towards the front of them, the front tends to catch on the pavement, causing me to trip…usually while I’m in the crosswalk surrounded by traffic. But I think they’re worth the infrequent embarrassment. Until I fall and break something, that is.
